Who's behind this site

RemodelBudgetCalc.com is built and maintained by an independent editorial team. We're not licensed contractors, architects, or interior designers — we research and build cost-estimation tools by digging through the remodeling industry's own published data, because most "cost calculators" online are either thin lead-generation forms or give a single suspiciously precise number with no source behind it.

So this site takes a different approach: every range and percentage you see is either sourced to a named industry report, or clearly labeled as this calculator's own modeling assumption. What we actually did to build this

The category cost weightings used in the calculator (cabinets, countertops, appliances, labor, flooring) are modeled on published kitchen-remodel cost breakdowns aggregated from industry sources including Angi, HomeAdvisor, and cabinet-industry cost guides. The cost tiers on the homepage and the resale ROI figures are sourced from:

• Zonda's Cost vs. Value Report (the successor to Remodeling Magazine's long-running Cost vs. Value series) — for national resale-return data on minor vs. major kitchen remodels.
• NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) — for general remodeling cost and market context.
• Angi / HomeAdvisor — for national cost-per-square-foot and category cost-breakdown ranges.

Where a figure isn't directly attributable to one of these sources — like the state-by-state cost adjustment — I've said so plainly in the calculator's notes rather than presenting it as a cited fact. Actual remodel costs vary enormously by contractor, region, and project specifics; this site is a planning starting point, not a quote.

What this site is not

• It's not a lead-generation service. We don't collect your information or sell it to contractors.
• We don't generate an AI visualization of your kitchen ourselves — that's a feature we're deliberately not building in-house until we can do it well. Instead, after you calculate your estimate, we give you a ready-made prompt you can paste into your own free ChatGPT or Gemini account (with a photo of your kitchen) to see a visual. It's a free tip, not something we run or profit from.
• It's not a substitute for a real quote from a licensed local contractor.
